Podcast: Cyndie Spiegel, Towards Joy
What are microjoys, and how can acceptance of the bad with the good improve our life? Author Cyndie Spiegel tells stories from her life to explain.
Cyndie Spiegel is a born storyteller–turned–writer; she’s an aspirational voice and an igniter of powerful conversation around self-acceptance, integrity, and joy. She is a former fashion executive, adjunct professor at Parsons School of Design and Fashion Institute of Technology, and holds a masters of professional studies. She is also a TEDx speaker and certified yoga and meditation teacher, and has been featured in Forbes, Glamour, Teen Vogue, and HuffPost. She is the founder of Dear Grown Ass Women, an inclusive and highly relatable social community for women 35+, and she is also the author of A Year of Positive Thinking.
Her essay "Towards Joy" is featured in the January/February 2023 issue of Spirituality+Health.
“As simple as it sounds to accept what is, many people don’t do that. In that acceptance, we are able to move through the world with a different sense of purpose and of humility. But if we pretend that the things that have happened to us didn’t happen, and we numb out and try to avoid them, to me there is this depth of life that we are not experiencing.”
In this episode, Cyndie and Rabbi Rami talk about microjoys, freudenfreude, and looking at joy as a perspective on life.
