Meditation Medication: Grounding for Anxiety or Overwhelm
Mary Wandler/Thinkstock
The first in three-part meditation series inspired by Ayurveda.
This is the first of a set of three meditations inspired by the ancient system of medicine called Ayurveda. In this sister science to yoga, mental, physical, or spiritual ill health is caused by an imbalance of the elements. The major three elements are air (vata), fire (pitta), and earth (kapha), and when there is too much of any one element, we can use another to return to balance. We start with a meditation to help with an overabundance of vata, or air, which tends to manifest as anxiety, overwhelm, scattered thoughts, insomnia, and general stress. Connecting to the earth element can help us calm the winds of our minds. soothe the nervous system, and feel better. If you have a tendency towards anxiety and overwhelm, it would be very beneficial to practice this meditation (and/or other grounding practices) every day. Over time, you may notice a big difference in your digestion, sleep patterns, ability to focus, and mood.
