Become Part of the Organic Family at Frey Vineyards
The Frey Vinyeards wine club is the equivalent of the VIP red carpet at the ranch.
Three times a year, the Frey Vineyards warehouse turns into something akin to Santa’s workshop. Employees work long hours packing hundreds of boxes of wine to ship out around the country. All the packages include tasting notes with food pairing suggestions, a seasonal recipe, and if it’s the holidays, a handmade gift, often lovingly crafted from one of our artisan friends. And who are the lucky recipients? Our wine club members!
Since we began in 1980, we’ve been a destination winery for visitors from around the world to come and experience the beauty and wilderness that surrounds our organic winemaking facility and taste a bounty of our no-sulfites-added wine. About ten years ago, we decided to expand our reach and bring some of those marvelous flavors directly to our customers. In the spirit of sharing our pristine Mendocino County wilderness, our Frey Wine Club was born.
We love hosting a good party, so our wine club gave us a great reason to do that several times a year. One of the Frey siblings, Chef Tamara Frey, prepares incredible menus using seasonal organic ingredients to pair with our wines. Some of the party highlights have been a pizza-making party with pizzas baked in the outdoor oven, and a wild mushroom brunch, served after a guided mushroom foraging hike on our ranch.
The perennial favorite event has been our annual Earth Day Biodynamic Farm Tour, where members can often pet newborn goats and lambs, learn about some of our farm practices like cover-cropping and making Biodynamic preparations, visit our roving chicken coop in the vineyards, and take a hayride. The afternoon culminates in a big outdoor lunch, with bountiful bouquets from our spring flower gardens, and live music.
One of our favorite elements about our wine club is becoming acquainted with our members personally. Some of our very first members remain with us today and they feel like family. “I love getting to know our members and hearing how much everyone enjoys our wine club packages and enjoys cooking our recipes we include in each box,” says Wine Club Director Lisa Batson.
Like most gatherings, the pandemic has changed the cadence of our wine club last year and this. We postponed all in-person events until we can safely gather once again. But for many, the wine club was a welcome respite during stay-at-home orders. It was a lot easier to restock your wine cellar by opening your door for a delivery, than braving a crowded grocery store.
“I hope in the future when things start to open back up we are able to have our wine club parties again and I’m looking forward to sharing our new winery and tasting room with our members,” says Lisa. “No definite plans as of yet, but we’re hoping to do something by next spring,” she adds. We hope to one day meet you at a wine club party or ship some of our wine directly to you! For all the details of our wine club please visit our website.
