Poem: disney princess

from our poet of the month, Tyler Knott Gregson.

Connect
Butterfly resting on fingers

The guidance Tyler Knott Gregson offers in his new book, Miracle in the Mundane, is for tapping into our creativity, purpose, and joy; because, "from time to time in this crazy and chaotic spin we call life, we need to pause, reflect, and truly begin again."

"I've been called a lot of things in my life, some good, some bad. Of all, the one that to this very day I still love the most is when I was called a Disney princess. I was given this title because I love living things--all living things of all shapes, sizes, species, and types. There is an extremely important lesson in this, in the desire to show all sentient begins that not only do you care about their well-being and happiness, but you love them and want to connect, want to feel their life force for a time. To me, this extends beyond Buddhism, beyond spirituality, beyond everything else, and simply highlights how every single living creature deserves our love, respect, and care." --Tyler Knott Gregson

I say it but it is not believed,
I have never, not once,
felt pride for anything I have achieved,
made, created, or shared.
Never, do I feel pride for who I am,
or who I have become,
or who I may one day evolve into.
I lack this emotion, I feel it not,
any time or circumstance in my life,
save One:
When I, simple handed and tender souled,
reach across that breathless emptiness
between my own fingers and a wild thing,
and am allowed, by their grace and
trust and understanding, to touch.
It is here, only, that I am proud of the heart
that beats in my chest, of the gentleness
that was never scared away from me;
The soul in me that tells them, wild and
unruled and perfect them: I am here,
and I will never hurt you.
Your are safe
with me.
