“Purpose is the conscious choice of what, where, and how to make a positive contribution to our world. It is the theme, quality, or passion we choose to center our lives around.”
—Richard Leider, Coach
This past year of the pandemic, more than any period in our lifetime, has presented a significant paradigm-shifting moment. This poignant opportunity to re-evaluate our priorities, our choices, and our purpose is calling us to pause, reflect, and discern the question “What is mine to do?”
At One Spirit Learning Alliance, we are constantly asking this question in the leadership of our interfaith learning center, sacred community, and spiritual home. How can we honor our sacred calling of being of service in today’s rapidly changing world? We offer our students, graduates, and staff spiritual practices to aid in discernment, freeing ourselves from limiting thoughts and tapping into an expansive perspective of possibility and purpose. We invite you to explore three of them below.
A labyrinth is a personal walking meditation, a body prayer traversed on a single path for personal, psychological, and spiritual transformation. The winding path becomes a mirror for where we are in our lives; it touches our sorrows, releases our joys, and guides us into the experience of the presence of the Divine.

Visio Divina is a contemplative practice, a form of “Divine Seeing.” In stillness and wonder, we are invited to look at an image, be present to it, and ponder it as an encounter with the Divine. This practice offers insight by reaching beyond words to the heart. It is a way to return to a place of spiritual rootedness, so we may be a steady, embodied presence as we continue in our active work in the world.

Sometimes a single statement such as “I am grateful for…” or “What is Mine to Do? can shift you to a more expansive state of knowing. Writing prompts can help you dislodge or call up a memory, spark an emotion or create spaciousness to really get clear about your purpose.
